And so it begins…

After the launch of “motigo.com”:http://motigo.com on March 31st, we’ve been busy tweaking and correcting small things making sure our users are happy. Our support team has been brilliant in keeping track of the minor glitches which we’re now on top of.

All in all we’re happy about how well our launch went. With existing users in the hundreds of thousands it was only very few existing users who suffered from the minor glitches that happened in transfering them from their former services (webtropia and webstats4u).

As we are finally on top of things again, we can begin to look ahead and concentrate on many of the exciting new features and services we have in store for you. We, the developers, have created this blog to have a direct channel with which we can communicate with our users.

Regarding the future… First and foremost, we will continue to improve the existing services we have, but we’re almost more excited about the new services that are coming. You will hear about all this shortly. We can’t wait to start!

Stay tuned. 2007 is going to be a great motigo year.

Although it all looks good, and some improvements have been made, the webstats have still trouble counting visits from various countries. Even if a visitor is showing (in detail) among the latest 10 visitors, it is not counted correctly on ”where do visitors come from”. Today I had a visitor from Equatorial Guinea, but the country doesn’t show in the list, and the visitor is probably not counted with the continent’s total figures. This has appeared several times already. With Webstats4U this problem didn’t occur.

Secondly, an e-mail address for support showing on the website was not working and my mail about this problem bounced.

Apart from that, I am looking forward to new features and I will be happy to use your services…

    To Frank Bessem:

I have checked your counter, and the visit from Equatorial Guinea (GQ), and found that it has indeed not been updating the statistics for that visit on the country of GQ, but more likely the “Unknown” country category (That is why the total for all countries still matches with the total for all visits over the entire counter life time).
This appears to be a left over effect of a change from one Geo Database (probably still used for the country indexing, and does not recognize the ip address) whereas we have changed the country lookup to use the more exact GeoIP from maxmind.com.
I will look into getting this solved. Possibly tomorrow or the start of next week.
Note that my changes will only have an effect on future visits.

Great! Thanks for the quick reply. While you are at it, I think the Democratic Republic of Congo (CD) is not counted as well…

I have changed the country mapping to use the new GeoIP from now on. My initial tests shows that at least Equatorial Guinea works fine.

I’ve tried to mail Motigo about the same problem, but also all my emails from different mail addresses to supportNL@webstats.motigo.com bounced.
(reason: 550 : Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table)

My counter had the same problem with counting hits from Bhutan and Belize.

    Thanks and regards,
